remedial Massage

What is Remedial Massage Therapy?

Remedial massage therapy is a specialised form of massage that focuses on treating injuries, chronic pain, and musculoskeletal disorders. Unlike relaxation massage, which primarily aims to promote relaxation and stress relief, remedial massage is clinical in nature, targeting specific problem areas and addressing the underlying causes of pain and dysfunction.

Techniques Used in Remedial Massage Therapy:

  1. Deep Tissue Massage: This technique involves applying firm pressure to release tension and restrictions in the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue.

  2. Trigger Point Therapy: Trigger points are tight areas within muscle tissue that can refer pain to other parts of the body. Trigger point therapy involves applying pressure to these points to alleviate pain and improve musculoskeletal functioning.

  3. Myofascial Release: Myofascial release targets the fascia, a thin layer of connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs. This technique aims to release tension in the fascia and improve mobility.

  4. Stretching: Remedial massage therapists may incorporate stretching techniques within the treatment to improve flexibility, range of motion, and muscle function.

  5. Active Release: This technique involves the client gently activating the muscle while a technique is being applied by the therapist in order to facilitate a greater and more efficient release of the tissue.

Benefits of Remedial Massage Therapy:

  • Alleviates muscular tension and stiffness

  • Improves circulation throughout the body

  • Reduces inflammation and swelling

  • Enhances flexibility and range of motion

  • Relieves chronic pain conditions

  • Accelerates recovery from injuries and surgeries

  • Corrects postural imbalances

  • Boosts immune function

  • Promotes relaxation and stress relief

  • Supports overall well-being and quality of life

Conditions Treated with Remedial Massage Therapy:

  • Muscle Strains and Sprains

  • Tension Headaches

  • Frozen Shoulder

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Sciatica

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Scoliosis

  • TMJ Dysfunction

  • Postural Imbalances

Myofascial Release

What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial release is a manual therapy approach that involves the application of sustained pressure and gentle stretching to release tension and restore mobility within the fascial network. Fascia is a complex matrix of connective tissue, that forms a continuous web throughout the body, providing support and transmitting force between various structures. This web surrounds and supports muscles, bones, and organs throughout the body. This technique aims to alleviate pain, improve range of motion, and enhance overall well-being by addressing fascial restrictions and adhesions.

Benefits of Myofascial Release:

  • Releases tension and restrictions in the fascia, the connective tissue surrounding muscles and organs.

  • Improves flexibility and range of motion

  • Alleviates chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and tension headaches

  • Enhances athletic performance

  • Facilitates postural realignment

  • Promotes efficient movement patterns

  • Relieves symptoms of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction

  • Aids in the rehabilitation process after surgery or injury

  • Enhances circulation and lymphatic drainage

  • Promotes relaxation and stress relief, benefiting both physical and mental well-being

  • Scar tissue release and re-integration

Conditions Treated with Myofascial Release:

  • Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome

  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction

  • Headaches, including tension headaches and migraines

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Sciatica

  • Postural imbalances

  • Scar tissue restrictions

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Arthritis-related pain

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

Craniosacral Therapy

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

The craniosacral system is comprised of the membranes of the head (cranium), the cerebrospinal fluids, the bones of the skull, face, spine down to the sacrum, and the bones of the pelvis. This system contains the central nervous system and the cerebrospinal fluid. The movement of spinal fluid within and around the central nervous system is believed to create a vital body rhythm, known as the craniosacral rhythm. In Craniosacral Therapy this rhythm is palpated by the therapist to assess one’s health and to identify restrictions that are impeding this system. Practitioners of CST employ gentle touch and subtle manipulations to detect and alleviate restrictions within this system in order to promote optimal functioning of the central nervous system.

Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy:

Craniosacral Therapy offers a myriad of benefits including:

  • Acute and chronic pain relief

  • Improved sleep quality

  • Improved autonomic nervous system balance and resilience.

  • Enhanced Immune Function

  • Relieves tension and restrictions in the craniosacral system, including the skull, spine, and sacrum

  • Alleviates headaches, including migraines and tension headaches

  • Improves symptoms of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction

  • Enhances the body's ability to self-heal and self-regulate

  • Helps improve symptoms of anxiety and depression

  • Enhances central nervous system functioning, aiding in the management of neurological conditions

  • Enhances immune functioning

Conditions Treated with Craniosacral Therapy:

Craniosacral Therapy has been found to be effective in addressing a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Headaches and Migraines

  • Chronic Pain Conditions

  • Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Insomnia and Sleep Disorders

  • Musculoskeletal Injuries

  • Neurological Disorders

  • Digestive Disorders
